I guess I didn’t mention that there is a sixth crucial factor, did I? The sixth crucial factor is:

Believe in Yourself!

No one can guarantee you will be selected for Chief. But I guarantee that if you follow my advice step by step, you will increase your chances. Obviously your chances are based not only on the information outlined on this site, but also on available quotas in your rating. Even if there are high quotas for your rating, I cannot stress enough that if the board does not feel that you are qualified, even if your FMS was high enough to make you eligible, they will not advance you just to fill a quota. Remember, every year some ratings have quotas that were not filled, even though there were plenty of E-6’s eligible to fill those quotas. Following the proper steps puts you ahead. It shows that you paid attention to detail and did what you needed to do, that you are determined, that you are interested in your Navy career, that you have potential for success. Once you believe you can, and you have the knowledge of how to do it, you are on the right path and the possibilities are limitless.
If you are in a very competitive rating, these steps may give you the edge you need, and a positive outlook is essential. If there is a lot of competition, you will have to work even harder to be on top, but you can do it. Don’t give up, because persistence and hard work is something the board is going to take very seriously.
