Check your service record for anything that might be missing. Do not skip this step for any reason. This is critical, yet so many sailors neglect to do it! Don’t just assume that your record is fine and that nothing is missing. How are you going to look if the selection board is reviewing your record and you are missing evaluations or documents? If you cannot prove that you can take care of yourself and your record, the board will decide you cannot lead others and move along to the next eligible sailor. Think about it: your evals are great (if only the board could see them, but ooops! They are missing!), you scored high on the exam because you used your Bib and focused on studying, but you weren’t selected because you didn’t check your service record. This is a 100% preventable mistake! Order your record early and make it one of your goals to update it as soon as possible. As a rule of thumb, you should order your record 2 months before you take the exam, to give yourself enough time to check it for errors and make any corrections if needed.
